Ten years ago, a boy by the name of Harry Potter defeated the most feared wizard ever known to the Wizarding World. The destruction caused by the battle rendered the school of Hogwarts useless in its ruin, but within a year the staff of the school had rebuilt it. Each resigned, of course, leaving the re-built secrets of the halls hidden from future generations of professors and students alike.

Wizarding London lived free of the dispair Lord Voldemort had cast upon them, and many even began to speak his name aloud. The Ministry did a fairly decent job in gathering up the remaining death eaters, though many appeared to have disappeared off the edge of the planet. Years passed without incident, the only major news bulletin being that of the crazy git who decided to show off for a muggle girl while drunk in a bar in downtown London.

Life was nice; finally nice for once. But all this time another cloud of doom has been forming above the Wizarding World, and passing swiftly under the Ministry's radar. A man by the name of Desdemon Malakar is a trusted advisor of the Ministry, his twin sons holding high spots in Hogwarts' student staff. The only thing that would render one suspicious of the family would be their old ways--those ways remeniscent of Salazar Slytherin's, himself. The Malakar family is of the purest blood, and the men in the family seem to thirst for power. But no one suspects a thing, right?

So what happens when at the end of September, the body of a dead student is found in the forest surrounding Hogwarts? Not one clue is found, and all of the trails aurors have identified lead to dead ends. The only physical evidence of the murder that surely happened is the chilling that was etched into a nearby elm tree. A symbol that could cause one's bones to chill, though nothing like the one Lord Voldemort used. A new dark mark.

What's to happen next, with Hogwarts' annual Hallow's Eve ball just around the corner and a Charity Ball scheduled for wizards around the country? And who is it, exactly, that is playing such a deadly game of hide and seek?
